I have a question about running scandisk from dos through the start up disk (that you make from add/remove programs).

I was wondering if there was a command that could automatically NOT make an undo file ..

I was thinking that if they had a command for auto fixing errors.. that they'd have one for this?

and in case i really confused you all..

scandisk/all/nosave/autofix/(command for not making an undo save?)

and is there any site that tells you all the commands you could type so you don't have to answer through dialogs later on?

thanks in advance!

Try this:

scandisk /?

... for a brief list of the switches

On the diskette there will be a file, scandisk.ini, that can be customised with a text editor (Edit, notepad)

Resist the temptation to close your request for help with semantically-null questions like “Can anyone help me?”

i tried the command you said and it doesn't tell me any switches for automatically not creating an undo file.

how do you customize on the ini file?

The '/?' gives you a quick rundown of the available switches, period.

Like most INI files, the scandisk one is a simple text file with headings - it also contains 'comments' intended to explain how to customize the file.

The default behaviour for scandisk is to never create an undo diskette, so yours seems an odd situation.

The bootdisk created via the WinME control panel has scandisk.exe & scandisk.ini contained in EBD.CAB (a compressed, cabinet file archive) so it would be a little tricky to alter - - I use a slightly different one from bootdisk.com, which has the files in 'plain sight' (custom, no ramdrive)

i was wondering why i could never see scandisk.exe or it's ini file anywhere... but that's okay.. i'm sure i'll live without another convenience.

thanks anyways.

Yeah - if you want, you can use the 'custom' diskette and edit the ini file to your liking, then launch scandisk with the '/custom' switch to use the custom settings.

Editing the one in the CAB file would be somewhat tricky.

The INI file is only used by the DOS version of scandisk - a bit more here
