hello,
my computer has just started doing this.that on start up the scandisk program starts on thorough mode .
is there anyway to stop this.
thanks for your time.

hello
this is sometimes caused by programs shutting down improperly. try this link
http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnme.php

thanks
i tried some of them to no avail.
as i think that it is not shutting down correctly,
perhaps the only fix is the supported fix for the ide hard drive cache upgrade from microsoft.
would this be easy to accomplish for someone not to experienced with computers.thanks.

hello
yes its veary easy but i did mine long ago
cant rember what it was that had to be done but was a newby at that time just go to the d/l link and d/l and install the patch and reboot if asked

charlton200,
Yes, it would be easy. (my opinion)
You could go to the Win update site, and get it there. Or, go here. Which is also micro$oft.
Do you know, if you have installed this update before? One way, to check if you have, and if it's ok.
Go; Start, Run, Type; qfecheck Press Enter
This will open the "Update Information Tool Properties". Click the +(plus sign) beside WinME. Look for UPD273017 Windo.... ect. ect. That's the update you're referring to. This will also tell you, if there is a problem with an update.(should, but not always)
Back to the update. If you download it off the site I provided the link to. First it will be 273017USAM.EXE Next, close down all programs you have running, IE, Firewall, ect., and put away any thing you are working on. The reason why I say this is, it will have to restart your computer, to complete the installation. So, double-click it, and say Yes, to restarting your computer.
I hope that was helpful.
Good Luck
