scan disk opens at opening

Scan disk always opens when starting up system saying improper shut down detected. Not so. Scan disk also freezes system at a certain point while scaning. What would cause this and how can it be fixed????

If scan disk is not completing its task due to freezing would probably be why it keeps coming back at startup. Have you started in the "safe mode"(tap F8 key during startup to enter it) and then done a complete scan disk and defrag through to completion?
