if this is the only cd-rom on the machine you
probably need a udf reader
udf reader google search, the one from roxio/adaptec is free through cnet
click here for Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 1.03

according to the specs it should read cdr's
installing the udf software shouldn't hurt any though.
could be the driversSamsung’s SD-612 DVD player includes all of the features you need to setup a
digital entertainment system right on your computer - features like a 12X spin
rate, 110ms average seek time, and buffer memory of 512KB, plus it’s
compatible with most Soft MPEG and MPEG hardware decoders. The
Samsung SD-612 supports DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW,
CD-DA, CD-ROM/XA, Video-CD, CD-I/FMV, Multisession Photo CD,
Enhanced CD, and CD-Extra - everything you need in one drive. Samsung’s
solid design, with ARS(Acoustic-noise Reduction System), makes DVD
operation stable and noise free

udf reader version 5.01 is available for free.and is newer then the one at cnet.

Version 5.01
Changes
Fixed a bug that would hang the UDF Reader file system after the volume was ejected.
Modified the driver to not use an invalid DeviceResourceObject when the driver verifier is turned on.
Modified the driver to clear the mount flag after ejecting a UDF disc. This allowed audio discs under NT4 to autorun upon insertion the first time.
Added code to handle MESN operation in DVD Combo drives in conjunction with the change at the packet write driver level to address eject operations

hello
the reson i have found so far when a computers rom drive will not read burned cd,s is that the laser lens is dirty.if you dont want to clean it right away and still need that burned data right quick you can go into the device manager and set the quad a head speed back to a slower speed try 1
you wont be able to play music or watch dvd s at that speed but you can get the burned data from the cd,s.
set speed back when done.
you might want to do a forum search on how to clean cd rom drive i think it was a well done step be step guide.
have a nice day
