hi,
i am presently running the accounts of my small business using a 'registered' accounts package.
i am about to start another business however the package will only allow me to run one set of accounts at a time.
Question:would it be possible to install the same accounts package in another partition or would the registry be inclined to detect & therefore disallow?
many thanks.

ramzoid,
If this is software that you have purchased what you propose to do is illegal. Therefore, you will not get much help from this forum.
If you still want to do this why not go ahead and try it. I do think, however, that your registry will recognize the fact that you already have this software running elsewhere.
Your best option is to purchase another copy of the software.

jennifer,
thanks for your reply.
richard has informed me that what i intend to do is illegal.
i could however,'legally', if the registry allowed me to do so, install the package on another partition so long as i did not enter a 'data set' different to that used in the other partition.
this of course would be a pointless exercise unless i wanted to investigate the action of the registry per se.thanks again.

I doubt very much if installing any program on one partition and then installing it again on a second partition would affect the running of it from either partition. the one registry does not see the other one, other than as a data file for the other partition, otherwise dual boot systems would not work very effectively. again, check your terms of condition for the software, don't rely on what anyone here says, they don't know, and may very well be giving you incorrect advice re installing it on the second partition. your license for the software may state that you can only run it on one pc, the second partition on your current pc could in no way be considered as a second pc. I run a dual boot system and have installed software on both partitions so that it will run from whichever partition you boot from. if you put your data files for the package on a common drive, then you would need to verify that you can update the files from either o/s partition, other than that, you should have no problems installing and running it on the second partition, go for it. Al

Al, I stand corrected and now that I read what you say I do agree with most of it.
" don't rely on what anyone here says, they don't know, and may very well be giving you incorrect advice. . "
I am not trying to pick a fight but does what you said above include you also?

I don't see any mention of a dual-boot system. So, I repeat my question, ram, what software is this?

hi Richard, sure, why not me? my advice may be as suspect as anyone else's here, I guess you have to make up your own mind about any advice given on a public forum like this! Al
p.s. I guess the only reason I talked about dual boot is because ramzoid mentioned running the software in another partition, that to me suggested a dual boot system, but then he has not come back and confirmed it, has he? nor has he told us what s/w either??
hard to solve mysteries when no clues are given.
