Hi guys, please can you help. To fix my restore problem, i need to get into Safe Mode. I can not get into safe mode. Pressing F8 or Ctrl as previosly suggested does not do the job. The machine just boots up into normal mode every time. Please can someone help !!
Chrissie

when are you hitting the key?I always tap the f8 key as soon as computer boots, and keep tapping it till safe mode comes up.If you wait too long it wont work.Sorry if you have tried this already.

It seems to be different with every computer-for me I just hold F8 down solidly and it comes up in Safe Mode every time!!

Hi.
This happened to me some weeks ago. I was completely clueless, but a friend suggested me that most of the times this happens because a security or tweaking program has a "disable boot keys" option activated. I looked through my installed software and he was right: Tweak-Me Gold and Winboost 2001 had this option turned on. If you have this type of programs installed in your system, you should check their settings.
Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, thanks for the response. Unfortunately nothing has helped to date. If anyone can help???
Chrissie

What make is your computer, Dell? Compaq?
What Motherboard and BIOS do you have?
Someone with the same might know the answer.
You could look here, although it's relating to Win98, some of the things are applicable in ME :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q180902
Meanwhile, go to your manufacturer's support site and see if there's a FAQ section. This sort of question often appears there.
Sorry can't help further.

You have several options to get into safe mode... or at least get the boot menu so you can choose safe mode:
1. Reboot.
After the POST (the memory check and the *beep*) start tapping on the F8 key over and over.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.2. Reboot.
After the POST (the memory check and the *beep*) hold down the F5 key.
You should boot directly into Safe mode3. Reboot.
After the POST (the memory check and the *beep*) hold down the left control key.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.4. Put a blank floppy into the drive.
Boot to it (you may have to change your boot sequence in the BIOS in order to do this).
You will get a Non-System Disk error.
Pull out the blank floppy and tap on F8 twice.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.5. Go to start>>run>>msconfig.
On the general tab, click the Advanced button.
Put a check in Enable Startup Menu.
Click ok>>apply>>ok.
Reboot when prompted.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.6. In normal mode open up the msdos.sys file located on the root of c:\.
Add this line to the file and save it:
bootmenu=1
Reboot.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode. All of this is of course Moot if you have installed the "DOS patch for Windows Millenium". If you have installed this patch, one of the side effects is you cannot get into safe mode. If you need to get in, uninstall the patch according to its instructions then try the above steps.

hey Chrissie try start run..msconfig choose interactive loading of drivers etc. When you are done simply reverse the procedure.Good luck.
