safe mode but not

Specs: Windows Vista

I am so not computer literate, but I have a Toshiba Laptop that looks like it's running in safemode (all the big icons) but doesn't say that it's in safe mode. I did a virus scan and Windows life one care found 4 thinks that began with Java and one was a Trojan (I know that's bad). The programs were deleted and I restarted the computer, but the same thing happened. Then I shut it down and left it off a while and it still opened looking like safemode. I cannot figure out what's wrong and it's driving me nuts. Everything seems to be working, I just have big everything and resizing doesn't work. Is this enough info to help me?

"Safe mode" screen - did you check to see what the screen resolution is set at? Right click on the desktop screen, then click Properties, then click the Settings tab. What does it list for Screen resolution & Color quality? Can you change the settings? If not, your video drivers are corrupt & need to be reinstalled.
