I went to Advanced windows care...I went through the download...then it came up and said:
The setup files are corrumpted. Please obtain a new copy of the program......I went through it again and it said the same thing...
Any suggestion?

Probably because it's designed for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.....like what it says on it's website.

(and it's snake oil anyway)

Try Error 1704 Cleanup Utility first, read the 'ReadMe' text in the zip and run it (no guarantees).

And what version of Java do you have listed in add and remove programs?

Okie dok, run that tool anyway (following the readme)

and download and install the last Java version to work on 9x/ME...

http://java.sun.com/products/archiv...

...which was Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 13. So you want the bottom one off that page: JRE 5.0 Update 13 - Download JRE...

...then Accept the License Agreement and get the (top one) Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language - jre-1_5_0_13-windows-i586-p.exe at 15.92 MB

Would only fix 20...so I did that...now I am downloading the Java you gave directions for above...
Wonder why that found 326 problems on my computer

I wouldn't worry about it, it's just flagged up a bunch of possible broken registry keys that's all.

yeh, it's a pain when you're on dial-up for sure, but when you have it, you have it and you can keep it in case you ever reinstall 98 or ME.

I was able to do the housecall scan...it took all night...Well, I started it and after 4 hours I went to bed...of course I have dial up internet service...when I got up this morning it had finished and found 5 problems...so I let it delete them...I am going to re-run it again and see if everything is ok..
My computer seems to be working great...
Thanks again for your help
