It says to run from the temp menu "attrib -r -h -s *.*" and i have NO idea of how or what to do. I really need anyones help ASAP because i have an annoying virus called VBS/Loveletter@mm and inorder to remove it i need to boot my comp into msdos mode. PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!!!!!!!! thanks in advance (=

Im pretty sure I know what they want you to do but i'm not sure about the exact syntax.
I think they want you too boot into DOS with a boot disk(or that disk if it has the boot files on it). Extract the program to a temp file (such as C:\windows\temp) and then run it using thoes run attributes. For example if the antivirus file was called NOVIRUS, the command would be-
ATTRIB -r -h -s *.* NOVIRUSThese ATTRIB commands refer to-
+ Sets an attribute. - Clears an attribute. R Read-only file attribute.
A Archive file attribute.
S System file attribute
H Hidden file attribute.
/S Processes files in all directories in the specified path. You may want to post this in the DOS forum as command line syntax(how to type it out correctly)is not my strong point.

You dont have to boot your PC to DOS to remove the LoveLetter virus.
Install and update your anti virus software.
The boot to safe mode and run the scan. Repair/delete all infected files.

Think its worth pointing out that the command listed in the original problem needs to just be typed in at the DOS prompt exactly as is:
attrib -r -h -s *.*
will remove the readonly, hidden, system attributes from all files (*.* is a wildcard describing ANY contents in that directory).Boot the pc from a DOS startup disk (get one from www.bootdisk.com or make one from the Windows Add/Remove Programs (startup disk tab) option in control panel)
When it starts the pc and leaves you with the A:\> prompt, you can type C: (enter) to get to the C: drive and change to the directory you want, then run the attrib command.
Just noting another response above, if you don't need to do all this for a specific virus, don't bother as your antivirus software should be able to clean and repair infected files as long as its up to date.
Only go through the DOS route if you have to since it can be tricky if you are not used to it and born in the point and click generation (unlike me...)Hope this helps,
Mark
