I just removed a virus and am now getting error: unable to locate rundll32.exe so I can't open anything in control panel. At bootup, wininit.exe- missing/unable to load message comes up then windows cannot find '/P' when I get to desktop. How can I resolve above?
Thanks for any help!
JS-

if you can run msconfig
start-run-type in msconfig-click ok-click extract file-type in rundll32.exe-click start-in the where from-type in c:\windows\options\install
in the where to
c:\windows
click ok
repeat for wininit.exe
then rebootthe windows cannot find '/P' when I get to desktop message is probably left over from the virus, and is probably being called from the registry. you could try running regedit
and searching for it there, and delete it when found. or lookup the virus name at http://www.sarc.com and follow their instructions on complete removal.

when going to control panel the message...cannot find the file c:\windows\rundll32.exe ... i tried to go to start-run- type in misconfig...and it wont let me do that either....help me

I downloaded a program from SysteMax called WinZip Self Extractor,(Tech-in-a-box) and now when I try to open my control panel,it ask me to click setup to begin copying files to my system.(RUNDLL32.EXE)It will not let me open my control panel at all to remove the program.I want it removed completely. Is there any way you can help me?Please ASAP

this is how I fixed the problem. Start, help, I then typed in extract and followed the instructions from there.

guys, i think the 1st instructions meant to have you type sfc in the run text box.
start->Run.., and type sfc
(system file checker)
this will work if you have win98/ME
if it's 95, you're gonna have to extract from dos. type extract/? to get the instructions on how to use that.to find out what's trying to load on windows bootup, that's when you go to start->run.. and type msconfig.
you have to make sure nothing weird is being called in your autoexec or config files, nor in the [boot] section of your system.ini, nor in your [windows] section of your win.ini file (you have a load= and a run= variable in there that shouldn't have any values by default(ANYTHING listed here, could be infected). last is the startup tab which shows you the content of the Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Run registry keys (in hkey local machine and sometimes even local users). you gotta make sure there's nothing dumb being called here.
if you don't have msconfig, your stuck doing all of the above manually. gluck.you should also empty up your start->startup folder in case anything in there is bad.

Guys one question: What is rundll32.exe for?
When I hit control alt del on my computer I can see this rundll32.exe 3 times. Is this normal to repeat it self 3 times? if not Any one that needs this component or extension or what ever this
is I have 2 extras... hahahahJust a joke for all the fellows that lost their
rundll32.exe :-)Plase reply to this message to my email address: maryp3000@yahoo.com

rundll32.exe is not found on my computer. I can get to the system file checker and extract file window fine, in the restore box i type in c:\windows\options\install but the file is not found there. Is there another path in which to follow?
I use Windows 98, if I upgrade to Windows XP will this solve the problem also?

I can't get my rundll32.exe back...I tried all the steps, and it says my windows\options\install aren't there...what do I do? Someone please help.
