Try this - it usually works.
Copy and paste these lines exactly as they are, into Notepad, starting at Regedit4, and including everything down to the last inverted commas.
Save it as SETUPX.REG in My Documents and then double click the file to run it.
The registry entries will be edited and hopefully all will be well again.
Good luck.

It worked for me as well. The problem was caused by a clean reg utility (CleanReg3). You saved me to reinstall windows. MANY THANKS

Thank you Krystna. Dell said I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows ME. The last time I reformated a hard drive was in the mid 80's and I had no intention of doing it now. Your fix worked like a charm. Again, Thank you. Peter

Thanks. Worked a dream. Had to restart comp and all was well. Easy Cleaner had removed the reg file I think.

I thank you for this fix. I serach M$ for hours looking for an answer. You obviously know the M$ registry much better than anyone I know. If you are ever in Texas, I may just buy you lunch!

Please share with us, how did you know what to do? M$ was stumped. I was told to "reinstall".

Hi Spooky
Over the years, I have accumulated a lot of useless info on Windows, and this was one of them !!
Just lucky that I remembered about it.
Thanks...Krystyna

Hi,
I copied your post to my 'puter a few months ago. At the time I had already fixed the same problem by extracting a new SetupX file but I decided to keep your fix anyway.
It's a good thing I did because I just had to use it! Extracting the file didn't work and I already knew that deleting the .inf files just caused problems later.
So, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the fix!
Have A Good One.....I do!,
DN
