Recently, my computer is unable to shut down or restart properly. After all the icons have disappeared and my wallpaper is still remaining.. it stops.. it doesn't freeze because the mouse still moves.. but it doesn't do anything. I always have to resort to hitting the power button.. which then causes windows to run scandisk when i boot up. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del and i found that the last program in the list was rundll32.. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

The rundll32 you see running is just the Windows Shutdown command running, waiting for some process to shutdown. You need to update all of your hardware device drivers if you can. If you have a RealTek NIC adapter in your system, you need to go to the Realtek.com.tw web site and download their latest drivrs.
This could be cause by Virus, Adware, Spyware, Worms or Trojas so you need to check for these.
If all else fails, try MS Q273746 - How to Troubleshoot Windows ME Shutdown Problems to sort out what might be hanging your system.

What are drivers? How do I update my drivers?
I went to drivershq and I got a list.. but where can I update them?Display adapters
