Rundll32 and kernel32.dll error!!

Hi Everyone, After installing windows me, I ran a scandisk and half way through the scanning, scandisk stop responding! I then restarted the system to find the error message "Rundll32 has caused an error in kernel32.dll. Rundll will now close" Then another error message " Error loading powprof.dll " The system just hangs and doesn't open windows explorer!! Please help as I'm really, really stuck!!! Many Thanks SB.
