A friend of mine is runnig WINDOWS ME. When she try to start her computer Windows won't load. Instead it there is a message saying: run-time error 48. File not found:PSAPI.DLL. After searching the internet I have come to understand that the problem is most probably a funnera virus.

Since you can't start windows you can not use an ordinary virus program. Instead I will have to use a rescue disk. I have installed Norton antivirus 2004 but here is the problem. When I run LiveUpdate to get the lates virusdef. the virusdef. becomes to big for an ordinary floppy disk. Since XP doesn't seem to work in the same way as older windows it doesen't seem lite the creators have placed to much thought behind this since I can't find any usefull information on their homepage. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or any other preferable free virus program I can use to make a new rescue disk?

Those are classic Funner symptoms - others (running 9x) were able to achieve Safe Mode after reinstalling Windows into its original folder, and then cleaning the system with their regular AV.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I have had numerus runtime errors in the past week. If you turn pc off at the power and not via the 'shutdown' process, then switch back on, the clock should be correct. You can at least then do spyware searches. It's usually when the clock is not the right time. It could be that the clock needs renewing, they are battery run and last 3/4 years. However if after you have turned pc back on and the time is correct, it is more than likely to be a tracker, trojan, spy

The described symptoms are (quite) indicative, and suggest funner, as the OP has also concluded.

"Windows won't load"

... so 'Spyware searches'? Not so much.
