Can i simply uninstall(delete) Win ME and load Win 98SE back on my hard drive with out loosing other data?
Have a compaq Presario, and formatted hhd, but to load drivers via restore disc it loaded ME back over 98SE. :-(.
HELP?????

If you dont see windows me as an option in add and remove programs then NO you cant just uninstall it.
If windows me is installed you need to format the drive and reinstall windows 98. Your data will be lost during format so back it up to removable disk.
If your saying your recovery disk has windows me on it and you need to get your drivers from it..
The ME drivers may not work under windows 98. If they do work you can stick the recovery disk in after 98 is installed an browse the cd with windows explorer to locate drivers and software.
Im confused. You say windows me is on your recovery disk? If so why the heck would you install a 5 year old operating system?

If you have been having trouble with Win Me, going back to Win 98 is unlikely to cure it, contrary to popular belief. Instead, try the homepage link in this post to get Win Me running well.

no you don't have to delete all your data if you want to go back from winme to win98. just create a startup disk, boot from it, load dn or nc, delete your windows and progra~1 directories and then intall win98 (be sure to have at hand the serial no before you begin with the install)
