Hi - I'm not an expert by any means; but I can tell you about the trouble I've had with system restore in Windows ME. If you restore to a date and installed anything new after that date, you will need to re-install the program or whatever it was. That isn't where I've had problems--what caused me heartburn (twice) is losing Norton 2003. After I did the restore and restart, I had a blue screen with info about Norton AV files not being detected. I was totally stuck. All I can think of is that I updated my viruses and took the restore back to a prior date. I had to restart in Safe Mode, uninstall and re-install Norton.

I would advise that you post the problem you're having. Restoring a registry may be a better coarse of action. I have seen and heard of too many horror stories using windows me restore.

Anytime I indstall a new program or a updated driver and my system is running well , I will createa restore point , naming it accordingly ! Another idea is after a install or download thats sucessful and your PC is running well , disable the system restore utility(this will purge all thr old restore points), then reboot , re-enable the utility and create a restore point .This way if you need to use the utility down the road , you can feel confident it will not mess up your sucessful installation !
