hi, I have a problem with restore point. I could use it before but for a few last weeks I am not able to do that. When I try to restore my computer I keep seeing a window with message that sounds something like " Please, restart your computer and then try to use restore point" . I restart computer and see that message again. It looks like that every time I try to use restore point. what can i do to fix it? I hope you can help me. Mark

Try from safe mode or end tasks of everything except explorer and systray using ctrl+alt+del before using system restore.

Try RUN\scanregw /fix. This worked for me recently.

Try disabling it and re-enabling it, but before you re-enable it do this:

update your AV. If it's updated or after it is: run it in Safe Mode. Also run a good trojan scan in Safe Mode, and while you're there do a general clean up:

expose hidden files:

http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Disable system restore in Win Me:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001012513122239?Open&src=sec_doc_nam&docid=2001111912274039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl

If you have a trojan it will be hiding in your system-restore files which cannot be vaulted or cleansed except by dumping them. Your AV scan SHOULD trell you it's there. Do not re-enable system restore until you are 100% sure you are clean. You should also dump %TEMP% files by > double click My Computer, put %TEMP% in address bar, enter, highlight and delete all (still in safe mode). To dump TIF click tools > options > delete files, check the box for delete off line content > click ok > click delete cookies. > click ok. Dump recycle bin. Do it all from Safe Mode if you can.

run a trojan scan:

(free version)

Just a hunch, and the above won't hurt. Also Are you updated with everything? Win Me, IE, Outlook even if you are not using it will affect IE settings. Updated Av? Running SpyBot and Adaware?
