hi... i have windows ME and have noticed that my _restore is up to 65,500 files equalling 15.8Gb in memory which to me seems pretty high. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew what happens if i was to delete the "TEMP" folder inside _restore which is holding all the memory???? I KNOW HOW TO DELETE IT, BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO????

You musthave HENORMOUSE HD, eh?
QUOTE:
On logical drives that are 4 GB or larger, the Data Store is approximately 12 percent of the logical drive that Windows Millennium is installed on.
Once the Data Store reaches 90 percent of the allotted size, it begins to "purge" older Restore Points on a first-in first-out(FIFO) basis until the Data Store reaches 50 percent of its allotted size.
To manually adjust the size of the Data Store, follow these steps:
In Control Panel, click System.
Click the Performance tab.
Click the File System button.
On the Hard Disk tab, adjust the System Restore disk space use slider to the preferred size.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Reducing the disk space used by System Restore may
FIFO existing Restore Points, so use caution when performing this action.Onward to the APOCALYPSE!

RESTORE folder uses disk space, not memory.
R U sure its 15GB, not 1.5GB?? Maybe U'd like to nuke it! Dunno why no slider, igot one.Use DELTREE at DOS level. Boot from ME boot disk, load SMARTDRV else will take awhile.
Copy them from WINDOWS & COMMAND or make sure they're in the PATH.
DELTREE _RESTORE should doit!Onward to the APOCALYPSE!

Dan,
Is it disabled, by chance? {System Restore}
That's right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Performance (Tab), click the File system (button), click the Troubleshooting (Tab). Now, are you all clicked out yet :-) Is the "Disable System Restore" checked/marked? If it is, well then it's disabled, which in turn, would stop the use of the "slider".
A question Dan, have you changed/stoped/unchecked anything, in the Startup (Tab) of the System Configuration Utility {msconfig}? Like for instance, *StateMgr. If you haven't, it still would be a good idea, to look/check and see if it is checked.
Another way, to clean that up is to show hidden files, and open another drive/partion. Or start.. run.. type;D:\_restore
Then press Enter. There will be a file called "SRDISKID.DAT", in the folder that opens. Delete that file, then prepair to restart the computer. Then restart the computer, and see how large it is.......
I'm getting the cart, ahead of the horse..whoops Let's find out, if it's disable, or not first, ok. Besides, I'm starting to write a novel ;-)

p.s. Two things, have you applied the update, for system restore, and what is the last/latest, and oldest date, of these files, thanks.

Ah Dan, one last thing, ya right he says ;-) How much free space, do you have on your C:\ drive?
Later,
CrazyOne

Me again ;-)
"I KNOW HOW TO DELETE IT, BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO????"
I guess, your original question was that ^^^^^ It would rebuild itself, well, that's if it's functioning properly. And you should really delete it all. Right everyone
I'd better get out of this question, before I do write that novel hehe ;-)
It's a high bump, hmm, or is it the other way around. I forget :-) Shhhh!, I'm hunting rabbits
I better quit this, before I get into trouble. Or is it, before I get into more trouble :-)

system restore post.
