We have 2 identical computers (emachines - emonster 1000B from about 2000/01 running Windows ME). Each came with a 2 CD set of Restore Discs. We no longer know which discs were supplied with which computer. If we tried to use them on the wrong computer, would anything bad happen?. There is a different Windows Product Key sticker on each of the cases.

Maybe. But then again presumeably the restore disc's will blank your hard drive(s) back to their out of box state (as in when you first bought the computer). If you use one and the computer stops responding try the other. That's all you can do really. They should begin again if it turns out that one disc was from the wrong set.
I'm thinking 1 disc from each set might be a seperate drivers cd as ME didn't really warrent two cd's. I had a comp that came with ME preinstalled. 1 Driver disc the other the restore disc. I ddin't ahve the restore so I put my copy of ME on instead:P

Either way... before you go about restoring etc... perhaps first copy off all theose "important" folders/files to removable media (CD/DVD); and verify they are truly accessible/readable on at least one (preferably both) PC before proceeding further... Copy = straight copy from HD to optical media.

Thanks Lupin3rd and Trvlr for your responses. I have now found the original Owners Manual. The Restore Discs do wipe every thing from the HD, and one is the Drivers disc as you suggest. I’ll make backup copies and test them as you recommend. I now have 2 more questions related to Restore Discs. I’ll post them as a new question.
