Hello,
I just started having this problem with my fairly-new WinMe system where as soon as I plug-in my network cable, the system freezes and then restarts. I have tried: re-installing windows, removing all network funsction (tcp/ip, etc.) and then re-installing them, uninstalling & re-installing several PCI-based NICs, and get the same result.
The ONLY way I got it to work was to use a USB-Network adapter... Then it gets online fine, etc. But as soon as I plug it into the PCI NIC Card, the system freezes and restarts.
Any ideas on how I can get the PCI-based NIC Card to work?
Thanks in advance!

Did you try this with the computer on or off? Try putting the cable into the pc while it's off. Now boot it up and see if the same problem persists.
Kevin.

If the problem persists, then either the NIC card is bad or the Ethernet cable is bad. Or there could be a short in the cable or card to ground. Try opening the box and unplugging the card, the plugging it back in. The card could be loose. Also make sure the cable is not shorting to the frame of the box when it is plugged in. (damaged cable).

Thanks for the help, but so far nothing has resolved the problem.
The same problem happens with the cable plugged-in either before the PC is turned on, or after Windows is finished starting.
And I've tried several different Network cards & cables, so that's not it either...
Any more ideas?
Thanks again,
-Matt
