Sometimes when my pc is too long switch on and I do the restart process, my pc wont restart and just show a blinking cursor ... But when I do another boot and restart again, it did a smooth restart ... I just wana know what is the problem and how u slove the problem or is there any patch ...

Another thing is, I don`t want the scandisk to run if system hang/ilegal shutdown occurs... If I cansel it, it would come back on the next boot,so I must complete the process so that it will desapear when i do another boot/restart ... I just wana use the norton Disk Doctor to manually check my HD problem ...

Edit your MSDOS.sys located in C:\, unhide it if it is not visible. Search for the AUTOSCAN, make its value "0" not 1. After changing the setting, make the msdos.sys file
attributes hidden again. Scandisk will be disable eventhough there is an error
before comp. reboots.

Note: Scandisk on booting will correct any disk drive error that may occur after abnormal shutdown/problems.

GoodLuck!

Go to start>>run>>msconfig
Click the Advanced Button in the bottom right.
Put a check in:
Disable scandisk on a bad shutdown.
Click OK.
Click ok again.

That should take care of your scandisk problem without having to modify bootfiles directly... and it will add the AUTOSCAN value correctly to the msdos.sys file.

As far as your reboot problem goes... without knowing more about the box... hardware configuration, what kind of software, power management options, etc... it's hard to troubleshoot.

You say this only happens if your computer has been up for a while? During that time, what kind of programs are you running? If you hit ctrl+alt+del what is running when you try to reboot? Maybe something you are running during that time is not clearing itself out of memory.

If you have a fast machine... a new machine... you may also want to check Windows Updates for the IDE HARD DRIVE CACHE package. Install it and see if it makes any difference.
