I am somewhat computer illiterate, but can follow instructions....recently we took a sledge hammer to a friend's old Acer....but first we scrapped parts off of it.I got the 1.5 gig hard drive after installing it and working perfectly,3 months later i noticed i was beginning to have a problem i had seen before.I had a resource conflict under "System Board Extension for PnP Bios" I had a friend who had this message in the past, but due to viruses has re-formatted C drive twice. I dont know if that is what solved it or what but he no longer has that conflict and he never worried about it as none of us had realized what the hell the resource conflict was telling us. This weekend my 1.5 gig secondary hard drive was giving me an error during Startup. "Secondary Hdd Error Press F1 to continue." so i was going to uninstall the 1.5 gig HD but i could not get into Bios....I boot up computer and push DEL and it just says "WAIT......." for hours and hours until i shut down. other than that the computer runs fine, boots up windows and runs all other programs...but i do not want to lose my bios..and pressing F1 every time I turn on my computer cause its giving me an error message makes me feel neglectful. I dont want to continue treating my PC this way. I would be willing to Format C like my friend, but I lost alot of my software disks recently and would hate to lose alot of the programs that I have saved on my PC. I was wondering if someone could help!

hello
do an online scan at housecall anti virus.
if you have a virus in your bios you have two choices. get anther bios chip.or reflash bios. but be 100% sure this is your problem.

Is also recomendable for you to clean the memory of your CMOS settings.
Some computer technicians remove the CMOS battery or simply follow the instructions that come included in the mobo's booklet for your system through jumper settings.
When doing this detach all data cables from Hard Drives and electrical connectors.
If what you are facing is a resident type of virus its most common behavior would be like: when you turn on your PC it will be written to your hard drive, when you turn off your PC it will get back to RAM in CMOS.
So it becomes sort of like a fox and hound process in which you need to act wise.
I dealt with a problem like this in the past (actually a couple with successful results) by seeking advice.
I was taught to remove the CMOS battery from your mobo with the power cord not connected to your power supply.
Leave your computer in this state for about 2-10 minutes in order for the capacitors to get rid of electricity that may still resting in the circuit. In other word written and alive instructions...
Remember that instructions or virus code is nothing else than electrical impulses transalated later on into 0's and 1's through your system's logic.
Place back the CMOS battery. Connect the data cable and electricty cables back to your hard drive.
Restore the BIOS settings to its defaults when prompted to access it.Check if you are able this time to see your hard drive detected by your BIOS.
If so, you are one step ahead of the problem.
Have at hand an AntiVirus. so when you boot your WinMe choose to be it in Safe Mode and install and run your AV in that mode.
Make sure that, if it is indeed a virus, to review the incident report to check if the virus was not only detected, but removed, as well as damaged files repaired.
You may download free of charge this utility "pqremove.com" from www.pandasoftware.com (you have to register first) it fits on a diskette and you may run it from floppy drive (write protected) using Safe Mode.
This utility actually detects, remove the virus plus repair damaged system files (if any were found)
Note: If you get your hard drive alive and have success following this advice I recomend doing backup of your data.. and also dounload a utility named wipe.exe (found in google.com or from IBM's web site).
It will wipe any fragments of data written in your hard drive zeroing it completely(something not possible even using the FORMATcomman with the /u switch (for unconditional formatting).
Wipe.exe will work up to 2GB's I believe.
Proceed then to fdisk and reinstall your windows afresh and restore your data.
Hope this bring some light
