HELP!! After eradicating OPASERV and DUPATOR (I hope) my PC wont boot up as its missing KERNEL32.DLL, I cant get passed DOS mode. Apparently the DUPATOR removal tool has removed KERNEL32 as well, (using a friends PC to send this).
I have KERNEL32 zipped on a floppy but how do I open this and install it (and to where?) from DOS.
any help (in laymans terms please) would be greatly appreciated.
Malc

You will need a program like unzip.exe to open and install the zipped file under dos.
http://www.mame.net/zips/compile/unzip.exe
The line to type at the A diskette dos prompt is:
c:\unzip.exe a:\kernel32.zip c:\windows\system
You type this on one line only and press enter. You will have to copy unzip.exe to C and use the right names and path to your files. If the file unzip is on a diskette type:
copy a:\unzip.exe c:
Press enter. You will have noticed from these two examples that you put a command first followed by the source file with a path and then the destination to where you copy with a path also.Good luck.

Thanks Petit Jean
Tried it and worked round using Zip Magic but it dosent enable me to reboot, possibly something wrong with the replacement DLL (?)

Thanks Wawadave
I only have an Me Start up disc as OS was bundled on machine when new.
Do you mean at A:\> I should type
c:windows\options\cabs\setup.exe ??
or at C:\> I should type
windows\options\cabs\setup.exe ??
Tried both, but neither work.

Thanks
Malc

The registry may be corrupted.I have seen the use of scanreg to restore it.Type:
scanreg /restore (press Enter)
Find the path to scanreg.
To try the Win ME installation:
After booting with the Windows ME boot disk type the following lines followed by Enter after each line.
cd\
c:
cd windows\options\cabs
setup
If the path is correct and it still does not work, this means you have the cabs for repairs but not for a full re-install.You will need a complete disc of Windows(95 OSR2,98 ,98SE or ME are in the same category:they only are different for the type of hardware supported and the tools that are more up to date from one to the other respectively). The drivers for video, modem, sound etc. will also be required to complete the installation. You can download these from the Web if you have access to a second computer and may be a cdrw to make things easier:drivers programs are sometimes large in size. You can also zip the drivers on diskettes to transport them to the other computer.Good luck.

INFO:

KERNEL32.DLL belongs in c:\windows\system.

Your .cab files, may be at;
c:\windows\options\install
or
c:\windows\options\cabs

Might, also be useful :)
Extracting files Windows Millennium Edition

Good Luck,
I'll Try
