Of all the junk files on your computer (*.tmp, *.gid, index.dat, etc) the ones I'd leave alone are DLLs.

I once used a system cleaner to get rid of "unused" DLLs. It got rid of hundreds. Of course, right away I needed some of them (I remember I could no longer use Windows Update) so I had to restore the "unused" DLLs. How was I supposed to find one one(s) I needed out of hundreds?

Whatever you do, be careful and save the "unused" ones in a folder for a long, long time.

Take the advice of the previous posters Col. I used the Solway programme back in the 98SE days and I lived to regret it. Most DLLs are not that big anyway and if you do remove a dozen or so what gain is 4 meg odd?

Take a look at the following pcworld article. On page 6 there is some good info on duplicate dll files and what kind of problems it can cause. I have spent a lot of time going thru my machine eliminating duplicates. I found as many as 5 dll files with the same name with as many as 3 different versions. I just rename the duplicates something I can find later. I don't think I would remove any until I was sure it was unneeded, and even then...
