I want to remove all files that were not on my computer from the beginning execept I'd like to keep my internet.. and modem setup and such working... so I'd like to avoid reformat.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

when you create or delete files, make sure you defragment your drive, else high fragmentation levels may make the system slow.
