hello linda if your useing partion magic it has a drive remap that reset folders and short cut to new loacations if you add a new partion or drive you get these new drive letters and what was on drive d: might now be e: so your short cuts and down load folders have changed loacation and partion magics drive mapper points every thing to where it should be. as for other type of drive mappers i dont know. have a nice day
Depends on what you're trying to map to really. A mapped drive is basically one which is connected at startup/logon but one that is usually on another computer or somewhere else on a network. Mapping provides a permanent link to that resource even though it is not necessarily on the same machine. Example: You have a C: drive and wish to use someone elses C: drive on another machine, you can "map" to that drive using Explorer providing you have a network connection to it and it's host machine.
