Comment: I installed XP over ME, got messed up with the installation and now I reinstalled ME. It works fine, but I still get an opening screen which asks me to select the version of Windows to load. I have 2 choices: XP or ME. When I select ME, it loads properly. How can I get rid of the opening DOS screen giving me the choice? XP won't load at all.

Reply: (edit)It's not a DOS screen. It's the XP boot manager. You can edit the boot.ini in the root of C: but if you get it wrong, nothing will work. Might be a good idea to just leave it alone. M2 If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Reply: (edit)How to remove the boot loader of W2K/XP when dual booting with Win98/ME Boot into Windows and make sure you have hidden files and folders visible. Now delete the following W2K/XP files on the C:\ drive BOOT.INI; ntldr;bootsect.doc; ntdetect.com. Once deleted place the Windows 98 boot Dist in the Floppy Drive and reboot; at the DOS Prompt, A:\> Type the following command and press the Enter Key. sys C: and Press Enter then type fdisk /mbr and Press Enter. Now remove the floppy and reboot into Windows.
