I just reinstalled windows ME from my recovery dis. i have soundblaster live version 008 identified. my devices all seem to be working according to my control pannel but still i have no sound someone please help

ccass, SWAG, sounds like maybe your machine is confused about just what it should use to open the files? Think I'd reinstall Soundblaster in order to reset the card.

Try turning up your keyboard volume control, if no joy go to Windows Control Panel > sounds and multimedia > general and make sure the volume control is not at the far left, if so, move it to the right and apply/okay. Also check the audio tab > sound playback > volume and ensure nothing is muted and ensure none of the volume sliders at at the bottom, if so, move them up > apply/okay.
