Over the years, all kinds of error started to crop up one by one on my ME. So I've decided to reinstall (clean) it. My question is: Do I need installers for all my drivers (most of which I don't have) like the floppy, harddisk, CD-ROM. The reason why I'm asking is my computer came with a modem installer so naturally I'm having my doubts as to whether the other drivers needs them too.

The floopy,cd and harddrives do not normally need drivers, windows will usally detect them. Modems and grahpics adaptors usally will need drives installed and it is best to have these ready when you reinstall windows. While your computer is still running you need to ID the manufacturer of your computer, motherboard, modem, graphics adaptor etc. A program such as everest will be helpful. After identifying everything you need to researh them all to learn as much as possible about them, and to locate the correct drivers. Before you format, you should look at this post

to see if you can fix the problem without formating and reinstalling.larry

Perhaps with a non distructive reinstall over the top of your system will prevent you from having to reinstall all of the drivers ? Here are some directions I copied on how to do this type of reinstall
>do a nondistuctive windows m.e reinstall with out loseing data goto safe mode and than c:windows\options\cabs\setup.exe
double click setup and windows will start reinstalling on top of its self !
Good Luck Nick

Point 17 of my post which Larry has referred you to will help you through the reinstall - download the drivers you need first.
There's a prettier version of the post courtesy of SMUOD, with all nice hyperlinks, here

By the way, I hope all the hyperlinks are still working properly, because I've been away from the forum for a long time and I haven't updated the post recently.
