Hi Lin.
Delindex is a great proggie.
Its easy,, run start up disc, type C:delindex.bat and you are away.I then press L for the less option. You can type M for more..
You may have to go into folder options and
remove hide file extension types.
Take tick out.Or in. (Cant remember)
Dont know why.. But it works.
Regards Col.
RM will give you better advice. If he posts back.

Question for the delindex expert here:
When I chose Less Option I got this response :Access Denied, Access Denied, Access Denied, Path not found.
What does it mean?
When I chose More option it it said:
Deleting c:\windows\cookies
Sharing violation reading drive c
Abort/Retry/Fail?What does this mean?
Finally after repeatedly ent3ring Fail it said Access denied means files not deleted.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Not sure Rajan, you might start a new thread with this information so its seen by the author and others. Sometimes posts are never read when placed at the tail end of another thread.

What those messages mean is quite simple.
You did not follow the Instructions.
Instructions clearly instruct you to:
In Windows 98, you must choose "Reboot into DOS mode." In Windows Millennium Edition, you must boot up with a StartUp disk; select #3, Start Computer Without CD-ROM support.
If you try to run DELINDEX.BAT in a Windows DOS session, you will get exactly those errors as Windows is protecting the INDEX.DAT files.
You must run the Batch file from Real mode DOS, and with Windows ME, that means booting from a Windows ME diskette.

Col. DELINDEX.BAT of course can not access the Registry, but I do not recall a reference to needing to delete any Registry information, that one of the registry cleaning programs would clean out. Your post just started a different discussion that needed to be addressed. If I missed something, I am sure RM will let us konw when he can.

I dont remember anything about delindex & registry files needing to be deleted.
Renaissance Man made me aware of a product called listzapper that deleted recent file lists in the registry. It possible this is what was being discussed.
Do you have a link to the thread in which Renaissance Man mentioned this? If so i might be able to help clear things up.
