OS: ME
CPU/Ram: P2 128k (not sure)
Comment:

I have goofed in installing an ADSL modem (Siemens Santis
10) and now I get a "Can't get registry value" error
(related to the modem language value). I get that same
message if trying to uninstall! Have tried restoring the
registry (did not work because I did not have an old enough
save).
Thinking about restoring Windows (ME) but I am affraid to
loose the local personnel files.
I though of rebuilding the missing key but there is at
least 3 places that include modem related keys and I have
no idea what to restore and where. I also tried deleting
all modem related keys but that did not work either.
Anyone with some insight? thanks in advance,

Jean Philippe

If you have already tried to restore the registry ('reg/restore' you can go back a week I think???)but if that didn't work, you can try System Restore. This may work but I would back-up everything before you try it.
START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS - SYSTEM RESTORE. Pick a date before your ill fated modem instalation.
Anything that was installed after this date will get wiped off (I think) including your anti-virus updates etc.

Not sure why Dave put response #4 in there but there you go...

Your easiest method is rollback via system restore as Michael mentioned - assuming this is enabled and working ok. Otherwise use a registry cleaner program to remove all traces of the application, delete any files installed with the modem, and start over.

I'd backup your ME drive completely before making any major changes like this, or if you regularly backup you could just restore your most recent backup to see if that gets you back to pre-install point?
