I installed Windows ME about one month back and since than i am getting this error

"Windows encountered an error accesing the regitry"

In beginning it was less frequent and on restaring the windows problem use to get solved for few days. Now since few days it was occuring more frequently, so i formatted my C drive and installed Win ME againn..Now at that time i have not installed any drivers for any application and guess what.

On first time starting ME error occured..Now I am not an expert but i believe it can be due to some hardware problem since it occured on starting windows first time.

The matter is now so complicated that now when I restart computer after error..most of applications are not running and even drivers are being removed(how i dont know.)
For I installed the drivers for my creative graphics card and when error occured and i restarted my computer...the drivers were gone..this thing happened with all my hardware ..

I will really appreciate if someone tells me what the hell is going on!

Tahnks

Yeh, I had exactly the same problem.
I managed to "fix" it by changing the fan on my processor to a more powerful one, due to it overheating. This did help, but still ME was f uking up. So I decided to

Install Win 98!!!

No more errors!!!!!

I had exactly this problem, and the problem was always worse when RESTARTING windows. In fact I even had the problem on the first reboot from a clean install of windows. After ripping out every component in my computer and changing the hard drive I still had the problem. In the end I changed the PSU and the problem was solved, it appeared that the power was being cut too soon on restart while the system was still writing to the hard drive. This problem did not occur with Win 95 only 98 and ME.

Thanks for the replies!

Well I have not tried windows 98 , if nothing happens soon, I think it will be my only option left.

SHINEY POKER:-

I have noted that when there are two many things on start up..the error occurs. For eg when i installed drivers for modem and mouse..nothing happened..as soon as I installed drivers for my graphic card(along with an app which starts when windows start)
error occured..My point is that it took more time to start and may be as u mentioned it has something to do with PSU.

Also next time i tried ..by installing modem--mouse--sound card combination and error occured on staring after all three were installed.

Now I will try some other combinations and if it doesnt work too...then changing PSU will be my next option.

GOOD NEWS!My problem got fixed and it was due to faulty memory.I had two 64 mb(128) and one one of them was at fault.I run diagnostics but there were no fault in both.

Anyway it seems one of my memory was either bad or not working with other 64 mb ..BUT NOW I HAVE CHANGED TO SINGLE 128 mb and its working well.

Windows Registry Error occurs mainly due to the low Cooling Heatsink Fans.

Use Original Intel Heatsink Fans to cool down ur Intel Series Proccessor.

There will be no such Registry Error as far as the heatsink fan issue goes.

Steve
