I have a registry/configuration error when ever i try to log onto my computer. First it takes me to the screen to either choose safe or normal mode. Then my computer says that i have a registry error and a XMS cache problem, but when i choose either, windows does not load, and only have a popup window saying the computer found a new hardware and must install it, but i dont have the disk. And then on, I cancel and the screen just turns blank with no icons or nothing. what should i do? Install new version of Windows? Thank You!!

If you have a start up disk (boot disk) insert that and then start the computer. At the a:\ prompt, type SCANREG /FIX then press enter. If that does not fix the error, try SCANREG /RESTORE then pick a date when your PC was working OK. N.B. there is a space between SCANREG and /FIX. There is also a space between SCANREG and /RESTORE.

Post back if this worked for you.
