I have a working bootdisk and I'm trying to access and change the system registry of my computer....but when I type the command, REN REGEDIT.exe REGEDIT.COM, it tells me it cannot find REGEDIT.exe What would cause this problem? Maybe the directions I'm following are good only for Windows 95/98 and there is a different way to access the registry? I need to access the registry manually, since the startup npo longer works. Any suggestions? I need help!

What does your command prompt look like ?
If you are at the a:> prompt this is wrong.
You need to be at the c:\> prompt.

yeah, I'm at C: prompt, and I get as far as c:/Windows>...but when I get to C:/Windows>REN REGEDIT.exe REGEDIT.COM, it says file not found -- regedit.exe Regedit.com is still there, if it makes any difference...

Maybe you have to modify the two files that make up the registry: User.Dat and System.Dat. Check that out.
