Packard Bell's come with a RESTORE CD, if that has been lost you need to contact them for a replacement.

I don't think you'll be friends for long if you erase her hard drive and don't have the means to reinstall Windows.

Well, if you want to install Windows ME from scratch, you'll need two or three things (hopefully before you do any formatting or anything):

-A boot disk (try www.bootdisk.com)
-The Windows ME disk
-The CD key for Windows ME

It's important that you have all of these before you decide to format. You might be able to get away without having a boot disk, but I'm not sure how, so I can't help you there. If you need to get your hands on all of these things, the boot disk should be the least of your worries, though.

Once you get these three things, put in the boot disk and boot the PC from it (Just start it up to do this, it will do the rest for you). It should take you to a menu that has these options:

1 - Help
2 - Start computer with CD ROM support
3 - Start computer wtihout CD ROM support
4 - Minimal Boot

You want option 1, even if you don't need the help. If you do need it, or aren't sure, have a look over the file that it opens. When you're done, press alt+f then x to quit the readme. This will take you to a DOS prompt. Put the Windows ME CD in if you haven't already. Whatever it told you your drive letter is (Let's say F:\), type that letter, then setup, for example F:\setup. You're well on your way to installing Windows ME, and you should be able to figure it out from there-- It's just like dealing with Windows normally.

If you're having any problems, the Help file you open to get to the command prompt should hook you up with whatever else you need to know to get things going. If not, I know of a great forum that you can go to to ask for additional help... ;)
