I need to reformat my hard drive to reinstall win98 and win ME. tHE problem is, my ME did not install correctly and there is no uninstall option on it and no apparent way to get to Dos with out having windows open.

Uh,
Use your BOOT DISK. Any boot disk that you have made will work as long as you have cdrom drivers on it!

Make sure you have backed up any important files before you do this. You have to have a full version of Windows ME to do this, or an upgrade version with an old Windows 98 CD to prove you are authorized to use an upgrade CD of ME.
Make a startup disk from Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Startup Disk. Turn off the computer. Put your WinME CD in your CD drive, and the startup disk in your floppy drive. Turn on the computer, and be sure to select that you want to enable CD-ROM support. From the a:, type in "format c:" (no quotes). You will get a warning that you are about to erase your hard drive. Say yes.
After formating the hard drive, go to the CD drive (probably E:, but your system may vary). Type "setup.exe", and away you go.
After installation of Windows ME, and all the various driver installations, be sure to go to Windows Update, to install all the patches that have come out since the release of the Windows CD.
Good luck.
