I currently have ME installed on my computer. I am wanting to erase my hard drive and start over. When I type in format C: from the run prompt, I get a message that says to you wish to proceed with formatting. When I click yes, it say drive c in use cannot proceed. I simply want to erase my hard drive and re-intsall win 95. Can anyone help?

Make a start-up disk, from another computer.

In Add and Remove Programs, then copy these
files to the same floppy.

Fdisk.exe

Format.exe

Boot to the floppy disk

At DOS prompt: FDISK choose to view partition
information

delete all partitions, exit FDISK, reboot PC.

Boot back into DOS, at prompt: FDISK/MBR 3x

Create one partition 100% in size

At DOS prompt: FORMAT C: /U

***Always reboot to the floppy disk****

***Always use Shift-F5 to get an A: prompt***

then use CDrom support.

Reinstall your OS! (Drive Letter):setup
