re-creating a non-dos partition

I was deleting the primary partition on my hard drive so that could re-install windows ME as I was having problems and in error I have deleted my non-dos partition. I have tried re-created a primary partition and formatted it etc but I cant install the Operating System. I am assuming this is because I have deleted the non-dos partition but I dont know how I can re-create one...can anyone help?????
