recovery discs

I have an older hp pavilion 7940 that crashed..i started system recovery with the discs but when it came to disc 2 it started, went about half way thru then quit reading.lokking at the disc it has a deep scratch on it about 1/4 inch long so i guess its ruined.i bought a new computer but i would like to find some good discs for the old one since there were many pictures and mp3 files on it .i cant get any from hp.....does anyone know how to get some?????????????

As long as the scratch isn't on the data side (top), you may be able to save it by carefully blending & polishing the scratch out. If you can get it to work, immediately burn a backup copy.
