I recently contracted a virus on my PC. I had it serviced by a computer service and unfortunately, I lost all my programs, documents..etc.. well, everything. They installed a few of their programs on to the computer, however, in the process of using the recovery disk, i was told that the disk was scratched and now I don't even have that. what can i do? Thanks in advance..

There is no such animal as "Win ME 2000" - it'd have to be one or the other (unless you are dual booting)

"what can i do?"

Well, what do you think? Most likely, you need another installation disc

If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly

Sometimes you can make a copy of your restore disk on another computer.If
you're lucky the copy will work where
to damaged restore disk wouldn't.

The below site may have the restore disk
you need.

http://www.restoredisks.com/

I wouldn't touch you, with a 39 and 1/2 Ft. Poll!

odd... I posted the following in response to this query a day or so back...?

Often it's not the CD that is scratched...; just an error message that suggests it is and the error message is coughed up for other reasons...

Typically the reason can be RAM; it's failing... So you swap out RAM stick (mainatining a min for the OS involved...) and try each stick out of the system in turn;

The error message (first came to my attention here an aeon ago... on the NT forum).

What exactly is the error message you're getting?
