Before I do the dreaded reinstall and wipe clean everything, can you help?

I have used P2P. Without Virus or firewall. Reckless Downloading. Horrible, I know. I had been VERY naive and have seen the light.

I now use KazaaLite, free of spyware. I have run AdAware to clean. I have used McAfee VS (Most recent & updated) and TrendMicro HouseCall and been pronounced clean. I have Zonealarm firewall service.

Problem- Any recently used files (programs installed, downloaded media files, IE shortcuts) delete themselves without a trace every day or couple of days. Nothing is in Recycle Bin to recover at all.

I have heard that viruses can get in, hide themselves and modify startups to run hidden and keep replicating in restore files..basically run ad naseum. I think something in my PC file guts was similarly changed, but can't begin to know where to look.

I have already lost 10GB(!!!) of music to this b---tard. Before I reinstall, and lose the rest, can you help me find and kill it?? Please?? Thanks!

hmmm, i had a similar problem with missing files. First thing to do is to check for a virus scan update. then run virus scan. it should find one, if not check one of your many firewall programs that may be on some harsh setting. hope this helps.
