I am trying to format my hard drive because it's nearly full and there are so many small useless programs on it. When I try to format it in Windows ME it says it can't because "Windows is currently using some files"
How do I re-boot into Dos so that I can format it from there?

Create a boot disk from start>>settings>>control panel>>add/remove programs>>startup disk.
Then follow Theoran's advice on how to Partition and Format your hard drive.
The only thing to leave out is the trailing '/s' switch after the format c:. ME will not take that switch and will return an error message when you use it.
