When first using a machine with XP installed it seems likes this is the best thing since sliced bread. After running it for a few weeks you will notice that it has gotten considerably slower when accessing the internet and surfing. Windows XP comes packaged with dozens of spyware programs that, after time, slows down your machine when on the net.
If you are one of those people who keep on top of updating your OS, one of the updates is a spyware program back to Microsoft that lets them watch whatever your doing when online if they so please to do so. From what I was told this update cannot be uninstalled unless you re-install XP and do NOT download the update.
I and many others have XP to be one of the worse Microsoft OS's, confusing for the beginner and SLOW.
If you have Windows ME or 98SE on your machine now, stay with it. Do yourself a favor, do NOT upgrade to XP.

I dislike XP, will be moving to Linux some day.

For now quite happy with my highly modified WinME.

I have a laptop which is an oem meaning pre-configured...

i messed up and did some foolish things and ruined my chance to recover and reload my ME back on...

so..what I did is took a bootable iso of xp and loaded it on... though it's pretty, I still like ME MUCH better and I miss it bad...

I agree 98 or ME users stay were you are, the only advatange XP has over ME is the look, big deal it gets old...and that it parses the config and autoexec files, which give DOS heads access to the ansi...

thats it...

maybe a bit more stable, but it does load slower and shut down slower, which is annoying, plus the way they structure the tree is just too retarded for me...

so the moral to my story is XP sucks and ME rules!!!

Which update is spyware??

As for slow downs, I have had XP for over a year with no slow down. I do not allow new software to run on startup, do basic maintenance like registry cleaning, etc.

Whatever problems you are having, I doubt it is XP. It is probably other software.

Do you really think Microsoft is going to tell everyone which update is their spyware program? LOL. They claim the update is for help and support when and if you have a problem with XP. This way they can look into your machine and "find" whats wrong, yea sure.
All I know is that XP is a horrible OS, the premise was good, but the outcome terrible.
