i downloaded internet explorer 6 a month ago or so and it's horrible, i'm having trouble with sites with cookies and sites that have java enabled.
i tried fixing the cookie problem and its ok now but i downloaded the software from Sun for the Java thing and the pop ups do pop up now but they take forever and while that is happening the whole page freezes.
I WANT TO GET RID OF IE 6!
is there anyway i can uninstall it without screwing everything up and downloading IE 5?

You'd have to get IE5.5, I just updated to 6.0 this week because my IE5.5 was getting terribly sluggish, but it dint work, luckily for me have no problems with Java, and that new cookie option I really like. If I remember correct you can "repair" your IE browser from the "add/remove" settings folder, it gives you 3 options, if you cant repair just back up your favorites file on the windows folder and remove the thing. You can install IE5.5 from any of those AOL trial CD's that come in your junk mail too.

Go to add remove and double click on IE^ and it will give you a choice of what you want to do. BTW I hated it too!! I am using 5.5. Good luck!!

Some people like IE6 and some don't. I've read enought posts on this forum about problems installing, uninstalling, and using IE6 that I'm not even tempted.

I hope you can get back to IE5. Please let us know how you make out.

Just a little note of reference to everyone:

I have downloaded and installed the latest Java Environment from Sun and have had problems with it as well...have contacted them...apparently there are bugs in it (imagine that)...I have since uninstalled it and everything works fine...even with IE6...IE6 does have some problems as well...I suggest returning your system back to previous IE 5.5 as stated previously from an AOL trial CD and using the Java installation that is included in the AOL CD extras portion of that CD...

Hi I tried down-loading the Java Runtime Enviroment latest v.1.3 disaster both times/I manually removed any traces of both programs but they are still listed in the add/remove program box/ can't remove them, they installed incorrectly & the uninstall files didnot install completely. I have now installed the previous version ie 1.2 & it is fine. by the way stick to IE 5.5 forget 6.0/ disaster all the way/ better still choose another browser all-together/ you will have leaps less trouble/ all browsers have their trouble spots, just some are worse than others

IE6 is the best browser i've used yet. Netscape locks up and pages look like a two year old designed them, and opera6 just sits there when i click a link and does nothing for 20 seconds.

Their is some other problem with your computer or a program, if installed correctly and virus and zone alarm off completly you will get a good install and will work great and I also think ie 6 is the greatest...So if you installed it correctely as above then it is a problem elsewhere, maybe missing a file that is needed to correctely install or bad driver. There is also an option when you go to add/remove programs to return to previous IE, do it there. Sue

IE 6 has a known cookie problem that microsnot refuses to fix.

basically, bail on it. it is crap and wont work right for at least another year.

(whiule you're at it start exploring better OS alternatives too.
