Hey,
2 weeks ago this problem started occuring, where it would freeze, everything, including the mouse, so I'd press reset, and sometime by doing this, the computer Hangs, after a couple pushes of the reset bottom it would finally boot up, but sometimes it freezes on boot up as well.
Once it does start up to Dektop i can do stuff, but sometimes it would freeze and the cycle starts again. any siggestions? Thanx
Also I'd like to add, that I've tried formatting the drive, and installing XP, it even freezes on the setup along the way. I've tried formatting and setting up windows 2000 and same thing, it would freeze.

On my 6yr.old Gateway equip with ME, it was doing this freeze-up thing almost every half hour until I found out that the original Adaptec, now Roxio CD burning program was defective [even if reinstalled]. So I uninstalled it and that cleared-up about 90% of the crashes & freeze-ups. I understand that this was a common problem with this program along with not even recognizing the CD-RW drive with other Windows OS & computer brands.
I have Windows ME on a HP and I had problems with it freezing so I re-installed ME and I have no problems.
To re-install ME just put in system disk #3 first then follow instructions but there are 2 ways to re-install ME.
1. format the drive
or
2. just restore windows ME without formatting the drive and this way you will not lose any programs however some programs may not work properly like Virus programs and printing programs that you can simply re-install
