Hi all.
I did a bit of web surfing for holidays overseas info. At a couple of sites I was presented with a download dialog box to install a program to make whatever work. I downloaded it into a quarantine folder, No virus. But when I attempted to open it I got the old "open with?" box, and there you have it.
Does anyone know what or how the .RAM file works. I had a similar episode when I tried to view a PPS file. I had to install a Power Point viewer to open it.

.ram files= The letters stand for RealAudio Metafile. They are text files with a link in them. They tell the browser where the audio itself can be found. You will edit these in Notepad.

Hi all and thanks.,
theKid, well....Have you heard of low flying aircraft, well this one you gave me is one of them. Swoosh, straight over my head! I'm sorry but it's too heavy for me.
What does the RAM file do? play only music or pictures as well. Can I just go to a site and download a program that will auto load and when I come to a .Ram site it will play automaticly. Your site talks a lot about setting up Servers? I have no need for servers.
regards

Hello: .ram extension is used by the Real Meadia Player. The player needs to be installed on your computer (software) in order to play that file extension. When it is installed it will autoplay said files when requested. Not unlike Microsoft Media Player. http://www.real.com
Is the Real Player site, two types free and for sale.
There is a third player by Apple called Quick Time. Each plays their own files ie: .ram etc.
Take Care.
