RAM, can cause system shut down?

I am running an AMDK-6 2 processor ~500 Mhz, windows ME. I was running only 192MB RAM- I bought another 512 to install- after installing my system was running 640. However the system is shutting down at random while in windows, or will not boot at all. Once the memory test is done and the drives are detected, the system somtimes shuts down and restarts. Can one have to much RAM, and will it cause this type of problem? Thank-you

ME is only sposed to run 512 Max, that is what I run. Try puting your 512 in slot 1 If it still plays up try removing your 192 stick and see how it goes....Good luck...Jim
