Whenever I go to a site be a greeting card site or where there is music, I get a spybot alert that Quick Time is asking for 'Startup Global Entry' change. I have been closing it off and not allowing it the registry change. In the past, when I allowed it then it became listed in the startup list (in Msconfig.) and I had an awful time removing it from there.

I don't think it has to be in startup when booting up the computer - my computer starts up slow enough as is.

The sound on these sites where quick time asks this, is quite choppy.

Why does Quick Time insist on being in start up anyway?? Thanks for any help.

tykko, 'Quick Time' is an Apple proggie. It's used by many apps where sound's involved. I have it as a plugin. It doesn't try to 'call home'. Maybe we are speaking of two different critters?
If your machine seems to take an inordinately long time to boot, be sure you don't have unneeded extras starting.Certain things MUST run at startup while there are lots of 'wannabes'. Find a list of 'musts' @:

QuickTime & RealPlayer are both gateways to spyware/infection. If you must use them, use the "Alternative" versions. Find them here:

If you mean the QuickTime task entry, the following is based on how I fixed this obstinate xxxx:

Use Ctrl-Alt-Del to knock it out if showing, then untick it in msconfig.

Make some dummy file in NotePad (with just the word "dummy" in it for example). Save it as qttask.exe then copy it in place of the one already in c:\windows\system

It never bothered me again after that, and the msconfig entry did not re-tick. QuickTime runs just fine.

Note that the above was done in Win98SE so the file location and detailed procedures might be slightly different in Win ME.

I like the idea of Alternatives though, and will certainly go for one if I have any future problems with running newer QT files.
