Okay I'm in a bit of a mess. Well its like this, before, my computer crashed and we took it to this guy to fix it. When we got is back, it was a Windows ME, instead of 98, the original. So we just went with it. But when I did a quick restore on it, now it says it doesn't detect and devices and it wont work.
When I put the quick restore back in, it doesn't work either. WHat should I do. It just says contact Compaq or Dealer.
TameLion, it says right here in the fine print that ME is the 'new and improved version'. Sounds like the repair guy installed a new OS for you. Suspect 98 has gone 'bye 'bye. ME can be configured to make a sweet OS. As it came out of the box, there was room for improvement, seems it had all the bad stuff from 98 plus a few of it's own. To make it sweet, read/apply the hints at 'Trev's Tweaks...' @: http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html Especially the one about the memory manager. REALLY helped me. BTW, FWIW, the 98 recovery disks won't work with ME. There's an option to make more if you want that will be compatable. That may/may not address your problem. ME has a restore feature which will let you go back to a good iteration if it happened in the last 5 starts. Go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>restore to get there. HTH. Ed in Texas.
