I have to do a clean install, both Sun Java and MSJVM have become corrupt and now cannot view any applets.
Anyway, I hate doing this, but I must reload Windows. I want to copy all my programs on a CD from Programs Folder and then re-install them from there instead of having to install from disc. I know some cannot be done this way, but I have most of my utility programs set-up files.
I did try loading Windows on top of itself using C:\windows\options\cabs\setup, but that did not work. When I did that my brower reverted back to IE5.5 and won't let me upgrade to IE6. I have no java installed even though it says I do. What a mess!

"What a mess!"
Yup...& you did it to yourself (or should I say, to your PC). Why didn't you just fix JAVA?

"Why didn't you just fix JAVA?"
Lol, that is what I was trying to do, but things went haywire when, along with Sun Java's version, I got a corrupt or virus layden file called jdbgmgr.exe. When you spot it in your system folder, the icon is a cute little teddy bear..well, that cute little teddy bear is a virus that none of the anti-virus programs picks up. It corrupts either versions of Java, Sun Java or MSJVM...by the way, all this happened after I installed the latest version of Sun Java J2SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 7. I should of just left the MS Virtual Machine alone :(
One last ray of hope is, I e-mailed Sun Java and hoping they can give me instructions to manually uninstall Sun Java.

Virus Hoax: Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) Is Not a Virus

Oh, now, who are you going to believe?
Microsoft or an anonymous email?
(snap)
You are, once again, Microsoft's bitch

Didn't have to do a clean install after all! Sun Java sent me via e-mail how to uninstall the latest version of Java. I then re-installed it with no problem and it works! lol...Also was able to upgrade to IE6 SP1 by deleting a file in the CATROOT folder in the windows system folder. Everything fell into place, can open applets now with no problem and got the latest version of IE6 back...it is very easy once you know how to do it..

What was the method of uninstallation recommended by Sun? It might be helpful to others.
Also, what file did you delete? That also might be helpful.
Next time you get an email telling you to delete something, you might want to Google it. There seems to be several of these old hoaxes still floating around the internet.

Sun told me to download Windows Installer Clean Up available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
This will let uninstall any program you have that was loaded with Windows Installer.
The file to let me load IE6 SP1 is in the Windows Folder, look for System (on some machines it is in System32) look for the folder named CatRoot, delete the folder starting with F750Exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Long string of numbers.
By deleting that folder I was then able to download IE6 SP1 over IE5.5...
I was able to download the latest Sun Version of Java and it is working okay, but I don't like it...I would rather go back to MSJVM (Microsoft Java Virtual Machine Build 3810), but cannot do as of yet. I did read that once you uninstall MSJVM it is hell getting it back even with all the setups that I have. I have build 3805 which you need to install first, then install the upgrade build 3810. I keep getting errors about msjava.dll...
Sure wish I could go back the MSJVM..:(

"that cute little teddy bear is a virus that none of the anti-virus programs picks up". Right. It's not identified as a virus because it's not. Deleting that file will cause you problems. Before deleting anything, check it out.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

What I did was delete the teddy bear file and extracted the known good copy of jdbgmgr.exe file from the system cabs files. I did read that the file is really unnecessary though, has something to do with uninstalling MSJVM..
